The Intenary

After talking with some friends and consulting Lonely Planet and a bunch of web sites, we have the following itenary planned.

Arrive in San Jose August 14
Drive to Arenal on August 15 and hit the hot springs at Tabacon and check out the volcano at night
Whitewater rafting on August 16. Since the kids are under 12, we are sticking to the I and II rapids.

First Entry

We are taking a family vacation to Costa Rica in August.

How did we pick Costa Rica??

As a child, I remember reading a children's book that took place in Costa Rica. I remember one of the things about the book was that they did not have any military. As someone who remembers watching footage of Viet Nam every night on the news, this is something that stuck with me.

Move forward 30+ years and my wife Jane and I were thinking of where to go on a family vacation. I mentioned Costa Rica 12 years ago when we started talking about where to honeymoon. We didn't go then, instead went to Hawaii.

Well, with plenty of miles on US Airways, we decided to use them before the go out of business. Between the two of us, we had enough miles for the five of us to fly for free. When we booked the tickets, the price to fly to Costa Rica was over $900. Of course since then, there have been sales for $300 rt. Nonetheless, we are burning the miles and are off to Costa Rica.
